Message From Our President
Laurey Cosentino

Hello My Fellow CWC Members!
Thank you to everyone who completed our recent newsletter survey! We truly appreciate your candid feedback on format, frequency, and content. Based on your input, we’ll continue our monthly full newsletter as before — but with a few updates. You’ll now find the Philanthropy section immediately following the President’s Letter, since it’s one of the most-read areas. To help manage length, we’ve moved birthdays to our main website, where you can easily view them anytime.
As I’ve often shared, our club thrives because of members who step up to lead. It truly takes a village to make CWC the dynamic, welcoming organization we all enjoy. Every event, club, and initiative depends on members willing to lend their time and talents — and we are so grateful for all who do!
Looking ahead to the 2026–2027 program year (beginning June 1, 2026), we have four important VP positions opening. The Board and I wanted to share these early so members can explore their interest and learn more about these exciting leadership roles:
- VP of Philanthropy – Lead the heart of our club’s giving spirit! This VP oversees all charitable programs that support our community through volunteerism and fundraising, guiding the Philanthropy Liaisons and chairing monthly Philanthropy meetings.
- VP of Clubs – Inspire creativity across CWC’s many clubs! This role partners with Club Chairs and Co-Chairs to develop engaging club activities and events. (Note: website training for Club Chairs will now move under the VP of Web Admin.)
- VP of Membership – Be the welcoming face of CWC! This VP leads our new-member outreach, coordinates welcome events, manages our membership list, and helps every member feel connected from day one.
- VP of MarComm (Marketing & Communications) – An exciting new Board position that unites our communications, Facebook, and marketing efforts! This VP oversees the newsletter, guides our Facebook presence, and promotes CWC to prospective members — with a great team already in place, including Melissa Smith as Facebook Chair.
If any of these roles spark your interest, please reach out to me or any Board member for an informal conversation — there’s no obligation at all. Whether you’ve been a member for years or just joined recently, we encourage you to consider it! Seasoned members bring valuable experience, and newer members often bring fresh ideas and energy. (I personally ran for President only a few months after joining!) Leadership is one of the best ways to get involved, give back, and make lasting friendships along the way.
Mark your calendars for our Holiday Luncheon on December 3rd at Longview Country Club — our most popular event of the year! Let’s come together to celebrate the season and raise funds for Safe Alliance, supporting women who have experienced abuse.
Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving season filled with gratitude, family, and friends. I hope to see you soon at an upcoming CWC event!
Warmly,
Laurey

Longview Country Club

This year we’re featuring an expanded selection of vendors, including some returning favorites, perfect for your holiday shopping. Each vendor has generously donated a $100 basket or gift for our raffle. You can purchase raffle tickets online for a chance to win. We encourage you to invite your friends to join us for this wonderful celebration in support of Safe Alliance.
Our delicious brunch menu includes:
scrambled eggs, buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, applewood bacon, pork sausage, fresh fruit platter, assorted Danishes with whipped butter and local jam, roasted turkey, beef flank steak, roasted potatoes, vegetable medley along with salad and dessert!
We will also have a Mimosa station where you can purchase Mimosas for $12 each which will include a variety of juices and sliced fruit.
CWC is shining brightly this season, and one way we will be shining our light is by supporting Safe Alliance as they serve those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. Our speaker will share a little of her story with us, helping to heighten our own awareness of domestic violence needs. Please bring personal checks made out to Safe Alliance, or gift cards in denominations of $10, $20, or $25 to the luncheon. Gift cards should be from Walmart or Target, as they have much-needed pharmacies. Bring as many gift cards as you would like in these denominations, so the ladies at Safe Alliance can purchase what they need for themselves and their children over this holiday season. Thank you in advance for your shining generosity.
Registration opens November 3, 2025.
Price per ticket is $65.

| | | | Welcome NEW MEMBERS!
A New Member Coffee was held October 17th at Laurey Cosentino’s house. It was a great gathering of fascinating new members from a variety of backgrounds. We were impressed and can’t wait to watch them jump into CWC activities!
I encourage everyone to get to know them! Starting at the top left and going in a circle are: Henrietta Howell, Barbara Guth, Cate Weir, Cindy Golini, Terry Poindexter Smith and Sydney Avent.
| Visit the CWC Homepage to find all members celebrating November birthdays! | We care about our CWC members.
If you know of a member in need of sympathy e-card or a get well e-card, or even a "we are thinking of you" e-card, let Donda Thomasson know at CWCWelcomecommittee@gmail.com.
Donda sends out birthday e-cards and membership anniversary e-cards, too.
About 10% of members don't view their personalized cards. Please open, because we care about you, too! |
Club Corner . . . New activities
| | Come play Samba this year’s newest game club!
Samba is a variation of Canasta which allows both standards melds (groups of cards of the same value) as well as sequences (cards in numerical order in the same suit) to score points. The game is played by four players forming teams of two. A Samba match consists of four rounds with minimum point values of 50/90/120/150.
To the end a round, teams must complete one Samba, five red Canastas, one black Canasta, one Canasta of sevens and one Canasta of wild cards.
The club meets the 4th Monday of the month from 11:00 to 2:30 at Outback Steak House:
8338 Pineville-Matthew’s Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226. Lunch is optional.
Remember to select Samba as an interest group under your profile. | | The 2025-2026 reimagined “Spur of the Moment (SotM)” club is an informal group where the main purpose is to follow member-driven ideas in real time, rather than sticking to a fixed calendar or pre-set structure. The emphasis is on flexibility, creativity, and fun, with members suggesting activities for other interested CWC members to join them!
CWC Members may propose activities at any time by submitting their idea to CWCspurofthemoment@gmail.com.
Suggestions can reflect CWC members’ wide range of interests—such as movies, estate sales, antiques hunting, walking or hiking meetups, casual coffee gatherings, or pickleball and golf outings.
| | | Guidelines:
- Each Spur-of-the-Moment (SotM) suggestion must include:
- Contact person name and phone number
- Meeting place and address
- Date and time
- Attendance limits (if any)
- Estimated costs (if applicable)
- Special instructions (if any)
- The SotM Chair will review submissions (at earliest convenience), post approved events to the CWC calendar, and notify all active CWC members. Event registrations will be managed through the CWC Calendar Event system.
- The designated activity contact person will be responsible as leader/coordinator for the activity EXCEPT purchasing tickets or covering expenses on behalf of other participants. Each member is responsible for their own costs.
- Members are asked to be mindful and considerate when registering for SotM events and to cancel registrations in a timely manner if plans change.
